Devi Saraswati Mother Goddess of wisdom and knowledge, whom we worship especially on Vasant Panchami. A famous Hindu temple dedicated to Mata Saraswati is named after Shri Sharada Mata Mandir in Sringeri, the holy city of Karnataka, in India. The Shardhamba Temple of Sringeri was founded by Shri Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century.
At that time, Adi Shankaracharya planted a sandalwood statue in the standing posture of Shardamba. The rulers of 14th Century Vijayanagar and Shri Vidyaranyan (12th Jagadguru) established a gold sitting statue of Shri Shardabamba in this temple in place of sandalwood statue. It is believed that the Goddess Saradambika Devi is the incarnation of Saraswati, which came as the Bharti standing on earth.
It is a common belief that by worshiping the person, one can get the blessing of Parvati, Lakshmi, and Saraswati along with Brahma, Shiva, and Vishnu. Parents of children aged 2-5 years are given a slate and chalk or alternatively a plate of rice on which they pray to Goddess Saraswati and Guru to give good educationand education to their children. It is believed that Lord Shiva gave the Crystal Chandramouleshwar Ling in gift to Shree Adi Shankaracharya. Crystal lingam can be seen in the pooja held every Friday at 8:30 p.m in the temple.
